“I moved here from Tennessee in 1965, took up the guitar shortly afterward, and I was playing in the Underground Press when I met Randy Tupin in 1968.
“We were both playing in a Battle of the Bands at what turned out to be the first event that happened at the Amarillo Civic Center Coliseum. Randy’s band was the Rioteers. We crossed paths often for the next few years, and became friends. Randy has been there for me during many of my musical adventures, as a friend, advisor, and supplier of equipment. He always was our go-to guy when Jackie, Bob and I owned and operated Sneakers, our nightclub from 1988-1994. In 1987, Randy and I dressed up in our hippest mid-80′s duds to go back to the Civic Center to see Spuds McKenzie, the Budweiser mascot dog. I’m looking for the picture. Anyway, I’ve been fortunate to play music here in Amarillo on and off for the last 45 years, and Randy has been there often, in the audience, on stage, at the store, and in my corner.”
